Slam Poetry is one of the most engaging ways to help young people discover how powerful their voices are. Just Say It has worked to teach youth to take up space by making the stage and each other a safe supportive place to express themselves. Youth having ownership of their story is essential.

In a world that suppresses the experiences of young people, slam provides a place to give voice to narratives of struggle, joy, pain, healing, reflection, and give light to social issues in our neighborhoods and worldwide.
Mission
The mission of Just Say It is to create a positive and affirming atmosphere, where youth are encouraged to expose injustices and challenge their own ability to deconstruct oppressive narratives through poetry.
We believe that slam poetry is a powerful linguistic medium that can be utilized to create equity and social justice. By creating culturally responsive programming, we aim to foster creative expression, critical literacy, and civic engagement. Just Say It is based on a student centered pedagogy where participants are empowered to develop their voice and use it to enact social change in their communities.
